OUR SEA TURTLE DEFENSE WORKS.
Human encroachment factors have put all sea turtle species worldwide into threatened or endangered species status. The 4 sea turtle species who nest in southern Nicaragua face very devastating illegal poaching. If active protection does not exist the precious eggs are almost entirely removed from the beaches and sold into the food trade.

In 2016 we rescued the first nests in Vivero Escameca. At the end of 2019 we opened a second site, Vivero El Coco. Very soon we will open our 3rd site, Vivero El Yankee. To date, we have protected more than 300,000 sea turtle eggs from perishing in the illegal poaching trade. Each year we are able to rescue another 60,000 eggs.

Through intersectional approaches these campaigns have also created local job opportunities and a financial reward system that allows the illegal egg collectors to "switch sides" and become conservation activists.

Tim R talks about conservation without ignoring social justice. Intersectionality and solidarity are always among our goals.
